The KidBright model allows supporters to select a classroom and designate a monthly contribution that fits their budget. The cost to provide a healthy snack is .20 per child/day. This means a monthly contribution of $20 covers 25% of a class and $80 covers 100%.
For the 2017-2018 school year, KidBright aims to serve 25 classrooms and 500 children with healthy snacks at two elementary schools and one Middle School in the Durham Public School System (DPS).
Supporters can become a sustaining donor through recurring monthly contributions to a classroom of their choice, or with a one-time contribution to the KidBright organization.
A school enrolls in the KidBright program
KidBright services are available to schools where 60% or more of the students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Donors and volunteers are recruited
Donors and volunteers are recruited and matched with grade levels at the school.
KidBright begins snack service
As soon as we have adequate funding and volunteers for at least a full quarter (about 10 weeks) within a grade level, we begin snack service. Snack service can only begin once a grade level is fully funded and staffed.
Donors receive updates about the impact of their gift
Each quarter during the 9-month academic year, teachers provide feedback about the impact of healthy snacks in their classroom.
How your donation supports healthy snacks and KidBright
100% of sustaining donations during the 9-month academic year support the purchase of healthy snacks. Sustaining donations during the 3-month summer support KidBright’s infrastructure and growth so we can serve additional classrooms and schools.
